Jim’s first love is drumming, and has been for many years.
Being a member of the Manchester, NH Boys Club, Jim decided to join The Muchachos, a Drum and Bugle Corps that was a major program at the “Club”. He was 10 years old and had no experience at all. He started out on cymbals, but with hard work and practice quickly moved up the ranks to lead snare. Muchachos Drum instructor Wally Spears took notice, and began giving him private lessons to learn how to play a drum kit.
Jim never looked back from there!
Jim plays a DW Collectors Series 6 piece kit on stage with an eclectic array of Zildjian, Sabian and Soultone cymbals. His “baby” is a 6.5 x 14 Pearl floating head snare drum with a rock maple shell. Jim plays exclusively with LAR 5B signature drumsticks custom turned by LeRoy Aaron Rhodes. His musical influences are Terry Bozzio, Bun E Carlos, Stewart Copeland, Alex Van Halen and his first drum instructor, Wally Spears.
